"We're struggling a little bit right now and I am not pressing no panic button and obviously our goal is to make the playoffs and in order to do that we need to tighten our defense especially in the infield and my outfield is as good as I have had it in a while," Spartan coach Ken Marrero said. "But our infield positions is where we have had some hiccups and we will continue to work at it."
A week earlier, a four-run fifth inning by Montebello High was too much for Schurr to overcome as the Spartans lost, 6-2.
"Montebello just beat us and they scored four in the bottom of the fifth and just flat out beat us," Marrero said.
The Spartan pitching held strong for four solid innings, but a couple of miscues kept the fourth inning alive for the Oilers.
Marrero said he believes that his team has the potential to be a better team with the way they compete in practice.
"We keep playing away and my team keeps working hard in practice I believe that as long as you work hard in practice you can turn things around," Marrero said.
