041411RoPic3SOUTH EL MONTE - 4/1/11 - The Rosemead High baseball team blew a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday afternoon and fell to host South El Monte High, 7-6, in a CIF Southern Section Almont League game.

Alex Viola took over for Panther starter Rafi Garcia in the seventh and got into trouble. However, teammate Paul Cruz took the loss.

Rosemead (0-11 overall, 0-5 in league) scored early with two runs in the first inning. With one out, center fielder Devon Maslach singled to center. Cruz, who was playing shortstop at the time, then doubled to center to put the Panthers up, 1-0.

Catcher Andrew Gibson then scored Cruz with a double to right field.

However, South El Monte (4-5, 2-2) tied it up in the bottom of the first with a walk, a hit batsman, a stolen base, a wild pitch and an error on Gibson on the wild pitch.
