Pitching Woes Throw Game Away For Rosemead

  • By Shel Segal
RosemeadMtnViewPitcher2ROSEMEAD - 4/20/11 - The top of the seventh inning on Wednesday is one Rosemead High pitcher Manny Garcia would like to forget.
Leading, 4-3, and after pitching a solid sixth inning in relief, Garcia saw the game get away with three hit batsmen, two walks, a third strike wild pitch that would have ended the game and given the Panthers the win and a two-error infield play.
In the end, the Panthers lost to visiting Mountain View High, 8-4, in a CIF Southern Section Mission Valley League game.
Rosemead (1-13 overall, 1-7 in league) broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff double by first baseman Anthony Salinas, two intentional walks and a wild pitch that scored pinch runner Alex Viola.
Panther starting pitcher Paul Cruz gave up three runs in five innings of work with two runs coming in the top of the fifth on a hit batsman, two singles and a double.
Cruz also struck out three batters in the no-decision.
Trailing, 1-0, after a half inning, Rosemead came back with two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second.
