PREP BASEBALL: Keppel Pitching Finds Its Groove

After a rough start to the season, the Keppel High baseball team has seemed to have found its groove, with a 12-4 win over Montebello High on Friday and a 6-0 victory against San Gabriel High on Tuesday.

Keppel coach Ryan Nunez said the Almont League wins were the result of the Aztec offense gaining speed.
“The bats By are picking up,” Nunez said. “It’s the third game against Montebello and the second against San Gabriel, so we were able to see what they had.”
Aztec starter Edmundo Fernandez pitched a complete game for the victory against Montebello, with Jacob Nunez hitting three doubles.
Also doing well against the Oilers was Brandon Gomez, who reached base three times with one hit, one RBI and scoring a run.
Against San Gabriel, catcher Nate Torres scored three runs, while Daniel De La Pena threw five strong innings for the win.
Nunez said he is really pleased with the way things are going for the Aztecs.
“We’re looking good,” Nunez said. “We feel like second place is definitely still there for the taking.”
