The Mark Keppel High baseball team made it three wins in a row with a 3-1 victory over host San Gabriel High on Friday in an Almont League game.
The win was also the third straight complete game for pitcher Edmundo Fernandez. Now with a 2-1 record, Fernandez struck out four while giving up just two hits.
With the win, Keppel improved its record to 4-8 overall and 4-5 in league play.
Catcher Nate Torres and first baseman Brandon Gomez paced the offense for the Aztecs. Torres batted 2-for-3 with an RBI double, while Gomez went 1-for-3 with an RBI single.
Keppel coach Ryan Nunez said the team has been improving as the season wears on.
“We’re doing pretty good,” he said. “We’re one game behind San Gabriel for second place. We’re hitting really well and we’re looking really good.”
Nunez added the team’s pitching staff has started kicking it in gear lately.
“Our starters are going at least five innings almost every game,” he said. “Our starting pitching staff is doing us a lot of favors going deep into games.”
In addition, Nunez said his team is just looking for more action out on the diamond.
“We’re looking forward to our big game against Schurr this week,” he said.
