El Monte High School boys varsity baseball team took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning before Rosemead rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 5-2 in a Mission Valley League contest on March 2, 2016 at Rosemead High School. Rosemead opened its season with a 7-5 league loss at Gabrielino High School on Feb. 27.
Rosemead scored first in the bottom of the first inning with a single by Nicholas Higareda and a double by Angel Lopez. El Monte then tied the game on a balk in the next inning and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a run batted in single.
Then the host Panthers rallied to take the lead for good from El Monte as Rosemead scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Rosemead's Dominic Rangel hit a single, and with two outs, Lopez walked, and then Rosemead kept hitting singles until they had a 5-2 lead. The singles were hit by Joshua Nava, Joshua Chaidez, Gabriel Lazcano and Benny Ruiz.
Rosemead starting pitcher Chaidez had a complete-game three-hitter for his first win in Mission Valley League action as he had three strikeouts. Leading Rosemead on offense were senior Rangel, sophomore Higareda and senior designated hitter Nathan Aguilar who all had two singles to go along with Lopez's RBI double.
