Cantwell Sacred Heart High School and Montebello High School boys varsity baseball teams will play in California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section playoff semifinal games on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, with both schools hosting a home game starting at 3:15 p.m. A win by Cantwell Sacred Heart would give the school its first finals appearance in school history, while Montebello hasn't played in the finals in a few decades.
Montebello, with a 21-11 overall record, will host Kaiser, with a 26-3 overall record, in the CIF Southern Section Div. 4 semi-finals. The winner will play the winner of Laguna Beach and St. Bonaventure for the CIF Championship at San Manuel Stadium on June 4.
Montebello advanced in the playoffs with a 10-1 win against Calvary Chapel Santa Ana, an 8-1 win against Century, and a 4-2 win against El Rancho in the quarterfinals.
Cantwell Sacred Heart will host Citrus Hill in the CIF Southern Section Div. 5 playoff semi-final game. Cantwell Sacred Heart is 27-4 overall and Citrus Hill is 22-6 overall. The winner will play the winner of Woodcrest Christian and Tahquitz for the CIF Championship at University of California Riverside on June 4.
Cantwell Sacred Heart advanced in the playoffs with a 4-1 win against Ontario Christian, a 6-0 shutout win against Garey, and a 7-5 quarterfinals win against number two ranked Paraclete.
