MP Native Haren Pitching For Halos

DanHaren2ANAHEIM - 9/11/10 - The local boy has come back home.

Monterey Park native and Bishop Amat graduate Dan Haren is back pitching in the Southland for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after being traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 25 for southpaw and former All-Star Joe Saunders, among other players.

Following his no-decision start on Sept. 6 at home against Cleveland, Haren, who graduated from Pepperdine University, is 2-4 for the Angels with a 3.39 ERA in nine starts and one complete game in 61 innings pitched.

He also has an outstanding strikeouts to walks ratio, fanning 49 batters while giving just 15 free passes.

While he wasn't around to be interviewed at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Sept. 7, two of his teammates, outfielder Reggie Willits and catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli, had positive things to say about the 30-year-old big right-hander.

"He's a good pitcher," Willits said. "He's a top-end pitcher. Every time he goes out there he gives you a chance to win. He's a guy you want on the mound. He throws a lot of innings and always has us in a chance to win."\

Napoli agreed.

"He's fine to catch," Napoli said of Haren. "He throws everything for a strike. He can throw anything for a strike anytime and keep hitters off balance."

Also, his father, who is also from Monterey Park, is in Arizona working on a special baseball program for disabled youngsters.
