PREP SPORTS: Basketball Teams Finish League

  Cantwell Sacred Heart girls and Mark Keppel boys and girls high school varsity basketball teams lead area schools into the CIF Southern Section Playoffs after recently finishing league play.


   Cantwell Sacred Heart finished 7-1 to win the Camino Real League Championship with a recent 62-42 win against La Salle.
   In Almont League girls action, Mark Keppel won every game to go 10-0 for the championship, San Gabriel was 7-3, Schurr 5-4 and Montebello 5-5 among local teams. Recent scores were Montebello 54 Alhambra 14, Mark Keppel 67 Schurr 53, San Gabriel 39 Bell Gardens 16, Mark Keppel 60 Bell Gardens 14, and San Gabriel 59 Montebello 42.

  In Mission Valley League, El Monte won the championship with a 11-1 record, South El Monte and Gabrielino tied for second place at 9-3 and Rosemead was 3-9 among local teams. Recent scores were Rosemead 38 Mt. View 34, South El Monte 49 Arroyo 20, El Monte 35 Marshall 24, Mt. View 37 South El Monte 27, El Monte 41 Arroyo 22, and Gabrielino 69 Rosemead 29.

  San Gabriel Academy girls were 1-7 in Westside League with a recent 42-38 win against Highland Hall and a 50-20 loss to AGBU.

  In Horizon League play, Ramona Convent was 4-2, and San Gabriel Mission was 5-5. Recent scores were Ramona Convent 34 San Gabriel Mission 32, and Bishop Conaty-Loretto 40 San Gabriel Mission 33.


  Mark Keppel won the Almont League championship with an 8-2 record, Alhambra was 7-3, Schurr 5-4, Montebello 5-5 and San Gabriel 2-4 among other local schools. Recent scores were San Gabriel 61 Bell Gardens 44, Mark Keppel 64 San Gabriel 61, Alhambra 61 Montebello 32, Mark Keppel 66 Bell Gardens 29, Schurr 49 Alhambra 48, Montebello 57 San Gabriel 53.

  In Westside League action San Gabriel Academy won the championship with a 6-0 record. San Gabriel Academy defeated Renaissance Academy 69-47 in a recent game.

  Cantwell Sacred Heart lost 60-52 to Bishop Montgomery to finish 3-5 in Del Rey League play.

  Gabrielino won the MIssion Valley League championship with a 12-0 record and Rosemead tied South El Monte for second with both schools having an 8-4 record. Recent scores were Rosemead 71 Mountain View 49, El Monte 51 Mountain View 50, South El Monte 66 Arroyo 54, South El Monte 68 Mountain View 63, Gabrielino 73 Rosemead 38, Arroyo 55 El Monte 36.
