SAN GABRIEL -- San Gabriel Academy will host Price High School in a varsity boys basketball Harbor League game on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at 7 p.m. Parking and admission is free and boys junior varsity plays at 5:30 p.m. at San Gabriel Academy, which is located on Broadway just west of Rosemead Boulevard.
Price, 9-5 overall, has won multiple California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIFSS) championships in previous years. San Gabriel Academy, 7-3 overall, features several players who contribute to the success of the team said boys Head Coach Kevin McCloskey. "Sava Dukic is our starting point guard, has a 3.75 grade point average, and is being recruited by some NCAA Division 1 and 2 teams, and we have 6'10" and 6'9" centers." said McCloskey.
San Gabriel Academy has defeated local teams Blair, Maranatha, Mark Keppel, Temple City, and lost to Pasadena by two points. The team is younger with two seniors, one junior, 7 sophomores and one freshman.
McCloskey said, "We have a really great group of students on the team this year. We are talented yet we have had lots of injuries with only three games having our starters play. We are getting better every day."
Among other players having a good season are sophomore point guard Ian McCloskey, senior Malakhi Jansen, junior Luis Riascos, sophomore 6'9" center Alassane Sene, and sophomore 6'10" center Boubacar Coulibaly. McCloskey said different players have contributed to some big wins while starters are out with injury. San Gabriel Academy is in CIFSS Division 3AA.
