ROSEMEAD-- Forty-two high school cross country teams competed in day one Friday night of the two-day Rosemead High School 32nd Annual Cross Country Invitational with day two set for Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016.
First race on Sept. 10, starts at 5:10 p.m. and nine more races follow with the last race starting at 9:25 p.m. Rosemead has brought in large portable lighting trailers to light the way for the runners through Rosemead High School and Rosemead Park next to the school when it gets dark. The race is three miles.
There is free parking and free admission. Food and drinks will be sold and there will be a few vendors selling athletic apparel. Some highlights of day one among local teams were:
*Rosemead girls earned third place in the Sweepstakes Race with Jessica Perez in eighth place in 18:42.18 and teammate Lisa Kao in tenth place in 18:42.45 with both leading the way for Rosemead
*In boys Sweepstakes Race, Tommy Ly of Rosemead placed eighth in 15:32 and Jayson Espinosa of Gabrielino placed 10th in 15:34.
*Hannah Morales of South El Monte finished in sixth place in 18:44 in the senior girls race to help her team place third.
*Don Bosco Tech of Rosemead was sixth in senior boys, while South El Monte was eighth.
*In junior boys San Gabriel was 11th, Gabrielino was 14th and South El Monte was 15th.
*Rosemead was sixth in sophomore girls race, Gabrielino was 14th and San Gabriel was 15th.
*Aaron Dominguez of Don Bosco Tech won the sophomore boys race in 15:43, and Skyler Hudson of Gabrielino finished fourth in 16:18 to help lead Gabrielino to first in the team standings, while Rosemead was fifth, South El Monte sixth and Don Bosco Tech 14th.
*In freshmen girls race, Rosemead finished third, Gabrielino 15th and Ramona Convent 16th.
*In freshmen boys, Rosemead was third place, Gabrielino seventh, South El Monte ninth and Don Bosco Tech 14th.
