PREP RUNNING: Schurr HS Girls 2nd, Boys 3rd at Rosemead Cross Country Invite Day Two; 99 Schools Over 2 Days!

   ROSEMEAD -- Rosemead High School's 32nd Annual Cross Country Invitational smashed records for teams participating, 99 high schools, and runners who competed, 3,447 at the two-night event on Sept. 9-10, 2016. .

  Following up on Friday night's results in another story earlier on this web site, on Saturday night local team Schurr High School got second place in the junior girls race, while the senior boys team came in third place. 

  There were 1,851 runners competing Saturday by grade level (9, 10, 11, 12) and sweepstakes races with the three-mile race starting at Rosemead High School stadium, going through Rosemead Park next to the school, and then back to Rosemead High School to finish on the football field in front of about 2,000 cheering people.     

 Among highlights of local teams:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         *In senior boys race, Schurr got third place led by the top five scoring runners Jose Goven in 34th place in 16:17 (16 minutes, 17 seconds), Gustavo Gonzales was 37th in 16:19, Andre Cazares-Dominguez was 38th in 16:20, Jakob Macedo was 47th in 16:29 and Josue Gutierrez was 50th in 16:34 to give Schurr its third place finish. Montebello finished 15th in the same race.

 *Schurr junior boys placed eighth, and its sophomore boys finished 19th.

 *In girls races, Schurr was 11th in the senior race, and second in the junior girls race, with LIz Cano placing fourth in 18:36. Montebello was 13th in the junior girls race.  

 *In sophomore girls race, Marai Atanacio of Schurr was 11th in 19:10 as Schurr placed 14th, and Montebello was in 22nd place.
