PREP FOOTBALL: Aztecs Lose Season Opener

  • By David Barron

Despite a valiant defensive effort, Mark Keppel Aztecs lost its first game of the season, 38 - 8 against Pasadena Poly High School in a Saturday afternoon game.

Aztecs scored their lone touchdown on a pass from quarterback Elijah Castillo to Jonathan Cobos late in the 4th quarter. It was followed by a 2-point conversion run by Johnny Medina.

Keppel was denied a score when the Panther's defense stopped them at the 3 yard line. The Panthers sacked quarterback Castillo twice.

The Aztecs showed their defensive strength, however, when they stopped the Panthers on the 13-yard lilne. Next week Keppel will host Sierra Vista High on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
