PREP FOOTBALL - Keppel Brave-heart Gridders Kick-off Another Season

Mark Keppel High Aztec football team is off to the start of an other rough season. The team is short handed and many players will have to play both defense and offense. They are also short of experience, as most players are sophmores.

While the Aztec gridders have only one one game is the past three years, they grind it out every year starting out with spring practice and summer work outs. What they lack in size, experience and football knowhow, they make up in enthusiasm,

At Friday night's opener, the Keppel brave hearts lost to Malibu High, 48-0. 

Wlith only 31 players on the Keppel varsity roster, many of the top performers will be playing both offense and defense. The biggest player on the roster is Manuel Holquin, who is 6 feet, 2 inches and weighs 220. The lone senior on the team is Bryan Torres.

Coach John Tuttle, who came to Keppel last year, will have his hands full teaching and trainiing young 10th graders who make up the majority of the team. Other experienced players graduated last June.

Next Friday, Sept. 1, The Aztecs will face always tough Gabrielino HIgh which also lost its first game.  Game will be at Keppel Hgh Field.
