Because of the intense heat in the San Gabriel Valley, three local high school football games were cancelled Friday, Sept. 1 (2017).
Originally, Gabrielino was supposed to play Keppel; Alhambra was hosting Rowland and San Gabriel was scheduled to go to Garey. The games will probably not be made up, as they were non-league games.
Temperatures in San Gabriel Valley have been well over 100 degrees because of a heat storm, which has resulted in record-breaking temperatures throughout Southern California. Temperatures are expected to rise to 103 degrees with the possibility of light rain over the Labor Day weekend. An excessive heat warning is expected to continue through the weekend.
