Rosemead Gets Win At San Marino

  • By Lester San Jose
SAN MARINO - 9/24/10 - Rosemead High football coach Matt Koeffler calls running back Matt Fregoso, "a stud," "a Rosemead kid - 5 feet, 6 inches and 140 pounds with a lot of heart."

Fregoso put his heart on display in Rosemead's win over host San Marino High Friday night. He finished the night with a dominant 259 yards on 31 carries, and all three of Rosemead's touchdowns.

The Panthers, as a team, rebounded from their previous defeat to Rowland, with a dominant performance from its defense.

The Titans' only view of the end zone came from a kickoff return right after Rosemead's first score. Titan quarterback Garret Glazer couldn't get the passing game going, getting sacked three times and intercepted once by the Panthers' Matt Macias.

Macias, on offense, couldn't get into a rhythm as well.

This didn't concern Koeffler, saying, "He didn't throw any interceptions, and that's most important."

Part of this inability stemmed from numerous penalities throughout the game, for both teams. One penalty nulified a, what would have been, 30-yard touchdown pass for Macias. Things were moving pretty slowly for both teams.

This prompted Koeffler make a gustsy call, faking a punt on fourth down with seven yards to go. He said, "It was my call. The guys needed a spark."
