Chivas USA Stymied By RSL, 4-0

CARSON - As Chivas USA got ready to take on Real Salt Lake it was a tale of two teams going in different directions late in the season.
Real Salt Lake is headed to the playoffs while Chivas USA is trying to get out of the Western Conference cellar.
And it showed.
Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio scored two goals in the match's first 11 minutes and added another in the second half for a hat trick as they went on to beat Chivas USA, 4-0, Saturday night at The Home Depot Center.
Saborio got the ball past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy at the eight-, 11- and 65-minute marks to put Real Salt Lake well ahead of the Goats.
Paulo Jr. of RSL added one more goal at the 81-minute mark to seal the victory.
Chivas' best chance for a goal came at the 19-minute mark when midfielder Miller Bolanos sent the ball sailing for the goal. However, RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando one-handed the ball away while traveling horizontally in midair to preserve the shutout.
Chivas coach Robin Fraser said after the game the Goats - who haven't scored a goal now in the last 442 minutes - just didn't come out swinging.
"There's obviously not a lot to say," Fraser said. "We started off pretty well, but once again, shot ourselves in the foot. It's hard to compete if you give teams leads. We didn't make good on our chances and gave away too many chances."
He added the team just didn't even look like it was competing in the second half with the season winding down.
"We're seeing a season of frustration and it's building up the last minutes of the game," Fraser said. "We've made too many critical mistakes in critical points of games."
In addition, Fraser said he expects to see new faces around camp next season and wouldn't be surprised if his face were replaced.
"Without a doubt you don't have a season like this and don't make changes," Fraser said. "With all the rules in the (MLS) it's not that easy, but changes will be made - the coaching staff, the players. And I'm not naïve. I've been around a long time."
