The teams play at 2 p.m. Saturday at Irvine Valley in a first-round Southern Regional game. ELAC is seeded 10th and takes a 9-6-5 record into the game, while Irvine Valley, the seventh seed, checks in at 14-4-2.
The ELAC-Irvine Valley winner gets to play No. 2 Santa Ana College in the second round Nov. 23 at Santa Ana. Santa Ana has a first-round bye.
Irvine Valley won the last meeting between the teams, defeating ELAC, 1-0, in the first round of the 2007 playoffs, which matched 12th seeded ELAC against No. 5 Irvine Valley. In 2005, No. 11 ELAC posted a 1-0 victory against No. 3 Irvine Valley in a second-round game.
The Huskies, who finished third in the tough South Coast Conference, are led by freshman Fredy Alcaraz whose seven goals and 13 assists give him a team-high 27 points.
Alcaraz, a freshman from San Jacinto High, ranked third in the conference in total points.
ELAC's Javier Cervantes is next with 26 points (eight goals, 10 assists). Diego Martinez has 16 points and Kevin Gomez has 15.
Irvine Valley is led by Fredy Razo who has scored a remarkable 25 goals and has sixassists. The Lasers are also led by Nick Black who has nine goals and 12 assists.
Razo and Black led their team to a second-place finish in the Orange Empire Conference.
ELAC is looking to get back on the winning track after losing its final regular season game to Cerritos College, 2-1, last Friday and tying Pasadena City College, 1-1, Nov. 9. The tie with Pasadena ended the Huskies' four-game winning streak.
