PREP SPORTS: Rosemead Hurdler Tammy Vien Wins CIF

  • By Chuck Lyons

Tammy Vien of Rosemead High School added a CIF Southern Section title to her winter state championship as she won the 100 meters hurdles championship in 14.39 seconds at the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Track and Field Championships at Cerritos Community College on May 21, 2016.

Vien is a senior at Rosemead High School and her time of 14.39 in the 100 meters hurdles is a new Rosemead High School school record, to go along with her school record time of 44.65 she set in 300 hurdles as she placed third in that event at the same CIF Southern Section Championships the same day. She is the only local boy or girl to qualify for the CIF championships.

Vien next competes in the CIF Masters Meet on May 27, at Cerritos College where all five CIF divisions will compete to qualify for the CIF State Meet in Clovis, Calif. on June 3-4. Vien is coached in  the hurdles by Rosemead High School Track and Field Head Coach Fidel Dominguez.

Rosemead's last CIF Southern Section Track and Field Champion was in 1999 when Laura Tave won the shot put and later placed fourth in the shot put at the CIF Masters Meet. She was coached by Rosemead HS Athletic Director and Assistant Track and Field Coach Marc Harisay.
